All the hair that is done backstage is by volunteers. I work in the Aveda Network. So when a fashion designer hires a Lead hairdresser and a lead makeup artist, they have a test run. At that time the number of models and the amount of time to acheive style is determined. The lead then tells our booking contact how many stylist are needed and usually what talent level they will need. Aveda helps to sponsor some of the shows, so I email my contact to let him know when I am available, and If there is room, I go! usually there are between 8-12 stylist at a show. Some lead's use the same group all week. I would research which product companies help sponsor, and volunteer with them. You will have to pay your own way, but it worth it for the experience!
